After a couple weeks of rumours, Instagram’s dark mode has launched for every iPhone model running Apple’s new iOS 13 operating system.
However, it’s not as easy to enable dark mode on Instagram as you might think. As anyone who has downloaded the latest Instagram update from the Apple App Store will tell you, there’s not a setting within the app itself that lets you turn its new theme on or off.
Instead, the app’s new aesthetic dominated by black tones only shows itself if users have dark mode enabled system-wide on their iPhone.
This means you effectively have to go into your iPhones settings to turn on Instagram’s dark mode. It also means you can’t only have dark mode enabled on Instagram, once it’s enabled in your iPhone settings menu, it will impact every app and menu on your handset.
Simply put, Instagram’s new dark mode is everything fans were waiting for. The new theme ensures the user’s feed, profile and discover tabs rid themselves of bright colours.
The new aesthetic should be particularly enjoyable if you’re using an iPhone with an OLED display. That’s either the iPhone X, iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Instagram’s dark mode should not only prove to be easier on your eyes, especially if you’re the kind of person that does a bit of scrolling before bed. But it should also improve device battery life on OLED devices too.
