Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, has lived in Apartment 1A at London’s Kensington Palace with Prince William since 2011. They are raising their three children there – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one. The 20-room, four-storey home is not your average London apartment, so royal watchers were surprised to see moving vans arrive.
So who’s on the move?
Don’t worry, the Cambriges haven’t decided to flee London!
It is their next-door neighbours, the Queen’s cousin Prince Richard and his Danish-born wife Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, who lived at Apartment 1, who are moving.
And they aren’t going far, just downsizing to a home around the corner.

They’ll now be living in the Old Stables, which is still within the grounds of Kensington Palace.
Ahead of the move, Richard and Birgitte reportedly had £400,000 worth of renovations done on the house.
The couple lived in Apartment 1, which is right next door to Kate and William, since 1972 and raised their children there.
But now, their four children – Alexander Windsor, Earl of Ulster, Lady Davina Windsor and Lady Rose Gilman – are all grown up and have moved out, so it’s time for the couple to downsize.
